Each missionary when they arrive in their mission is assigned a companion. Someone of the same gender who will be with you 24/7 until you are transferred and given a new companion. Your first companion is called your ‘Trainer’. The name is given because they are the one training you on how the mission works. It’s an honor to be asked to be a trainer as it means the Mission President trusts you in training a new missionary. He knows you will teach truth and be obedient to the rules. He knows you will work hard and love you companion. It’s a big responsibility but with responsibility also comes blessings.
My trainer and first companion was Sister Christopher. A tall, skinny, blond curly haired girl, who has a spunk and fire about her that made it impossible not to like her. Upon arrival at the mission home to pick me up the Assistants met her outside and told her that we were the ‘Dream Team’ of the mission. I’m still not sure to this day if Elder 'P' told her about that experience in the town square but if he did she didn’t let it faze her. As she walked in with this bubbly personality, she wrapped me in her arms and welcomed me to the mission and expressed her excitement to work together. She told me she loved me and that she knew we were going to do great things. I believe that, that moment there in the mission home changed the way the rest of my mission would go. She loved me and she didn’t even know me. I trusted her for some reason, I knew that she wouldn’t lead me astray. So when she said this is how we were going to do it, then that’s how we did it.
For 10 months me and Sister Christopher worked together. We worked our butts off – pardon my language but we did. From day one we started running and we didn’t stop. We both had a work to do and people who were waiting to hear the gospel. I know this posts is a bit short but I have 10 month worth of stories with Sister Christopher so don’t worry you will hear how we became the best of friends and how she has shaped my life for the better.
