Singing street Displays

I loved street displays they were probably my favorite things. You get together with a few missionaries and you just stop people and talk to them about Christ. It's amazing and I always had a great time at them and we saw lots of success. One area in our district asked if we would be willing to join them for a street display they were going to do. We set up and got to work.

No one stopped, everyone was very busy and in a hurry. No one wanted to hear what we had to say and we were being abused verbally by a few people down the street. It was bad and we were not getting anywhere. One of the Elders suggested be sing a hymn and then start again. So there we stood this group of missionaries full of faith that the Lord would bless us, singing this hymn. By the end we had gathered a little group of people around us started asking questions. We talked with these individuals got appointments, handed out Book of Mormons, pass-along cards, and some pamphlets. When everyone had been talked to and helped and the street was empty we once again gathered as missionaries and sang a hymn. Once again we gathered a little group that then started asking us questions. We did this the rest of the day. We would sing our song and then answer questions. It was a great lesson for me to learn. I had always been told that hymns were a prayer to God and that they would invite the spirit however I don't think I had really seen it in action like this before. Those who felt the spirit of those hymns gathered and wanted to know more. It was a special and sacred experience one I would draw back on again and again.
